Must-see details

• Preah Vihear Temple: Dramatic 11th-century Hindu temple perched on a 525 m cliff with sweeping views. Series of gopuras and long processional causeway.
• Current status (September 2026): The temple remains closed to tourists following border clashes in 2025 that caused significant damage and left unexploded ordnance. Access is restricted; only limited official/media visits have been allowed. Reopening is not expected before 2027 at the earliest.
• If/when it reopens: Full day from Siem Reap (early start) or overnight in Sra Em. Steep climb or vehicle up the mountain; allow 3–4 hours on site.

When accessible

• Early departure from Siem Reap → mountain access road → 3–4 hours on site → return same day or overnight in Sra Em.
• Optional combination with Koh Ker or Kampong Thom when routes allow.
